Hydraulic fracturing (sometimes referred to as fracking or hydrofracking) is a relatively new form of natural gas extraction where a well is drilled and then highly pressurized fluid is injected into the well which then opens fractures in the rock formations deep below, releasing natural gas from reservoirs which would have otherwise remained trapped or released slowly through natural hydraulic fracturing or more traditional forms of gas drilling.

Hexavalent chromium is a probable carcinogen and was brought to national attention when it was found in the drinking water supply of the southern California town of Hinkley, and the subsequent involvement of Erin Brockovich.
Ultraviolet light is split into several different ranges: (near the visible light range) UV-A, UV-B, UV-C, Vacuum-UV (near the x-ray range). The UV-B range is what causes sunburn on humans.

In this range the light light will break molecular bonds in the DNA of viruses and bacteria, rendering them unable to reproduce and effectively killing them.
